Answer #1

Answer- It is because of increasing and decreasing returns

reason- Initially there are increasing returns of scale which leads to fall in average cost when more and more labor is hired, There is decreasing returns which leads to rise in average cost.

Answer 2. their average total cost is downward sloping

reason- When there is economies of scale, the average total cost falls as output rises.

So average total cost is downward sloping.

#8 8. The long-run average cost curve is the envelope of the firm's short-run average cost curves, and it reflects the presence or absence of returns to scale. When there are increasing returns to scale initially and then decreasing returns to scale, the long-run average cost curve is U-shaped, and the envelope does not include all points of minimum short-run average cost.
