A solid cylinder is mounted above the ground with its axis of rotation oriented horizontally. A rope is wound around the cylinder and its free end is attached to a block of mass 76.0 kg that rests on a platform. The cylinder has a mass of 275 kg and a radius of 0.480 m. Assume that the cylinder can rotate about its axis without any friction and the rope is of negligible mass. The platform is suddenly removed from under the block. The block falls down toward the ground and as it does so, it causes the rope to unwind and the cylinder to rotate.

(a) What is the angular acceleration of the cylinder?
rad/s2

(b) How many revolutions does the cylinder make in 5.00 s?
rev

(c) How much of the rope unwinds in this time interval?
m

A heavy solid cylinder with a mass of 600 kg and a radius of 0.50 m is securely fixed to a frictionless axle at its center. It has a long ideal rope tightly wound around it and hanging down from the cylinder about 1.0 m. Sally, who has a mass of 60 kg attaches herself to the rope and steps off a ledge, spinning the cylinder about the axle. If it takes 4.0 seconds for her to reach the ground...

The wide A 2 kg solid cylinder can rotate about its central axis through point O. Forces are applied as shown: F1 = 6 N, F2 = 4 N, F3 = 10 N and FA = 20 N. The positions at which the forces are applied are Ri = 6 cm and R2 = 12 cm. During the rotation, all forces maintain their same angles relative to the cylinder. Find the angular acceleration (magnitude and direction) of the cylinder. Rotation...

    1. A compost barrel can be considered as a solid cylinder of mass 50.0 kg and radius ofr= 30.0 cm, and a length of 0.900 m. It can be turned about the long axis axis of rotation marked by x on the picture) by applying a force to a handle located d=20.0 cm from the axis of the cylinder. The compost barrel needs to be turned through 250 complete revolutions. Assume you can apply a constant force of F =...

A thick walled cylinder has a light string wrapped around its outer radius and rotates about a horizontal axis. The string then goes vertically straight up and over a massive pulley that also rotates about a horizontal axis, and finally connects to a mass m = 0.900 kg on a rough incline (μk = 0.200) that is angled at 25.0° to the horizontal. When the system is released from rest the mass slides down the ramp a distance of 1.80...
