My Grades - 2020 Summer Tem x + E10: Pre-Lab Skills Homework Due in 4 days 1/2 answered E10 Skills Q2 Homework – Unanswered The digital thermometers that we use in the lab today are similar to the ones that we use in our homes, but several years ago scientists used to use glass thermometers that contained a thin column of mercury to measure temperature. Why do you think we no longer use the mercury thermometers in the lab?

Mercury Thermometer have so many Limitations in Laboratory in the view of Environment, Health and safety issues. Main disadvantages includes

i. Price is very high

ii. Slow response ( Time lag for measurement of Temperature)

iii. Highly fragile in nature

iv. it unable to measure low temperatures such as <-40⁰C. Because mercury freezing point is -40⁰C.

v. Mercury is poisonous, if thermometer is broken or leaked.

vi. Cannot be used in thermographs

vii. It' very hard to findout accurate Temperature from mercury thermoter, because of low sensitivity.
