One objection to utilitarian ethics is that it turns everything into an ethical issue: if I spend an evening at a baseball game, but would have derived more pleasure from going to a concert, then I have com-mitted a moral wrong. Nothing is exempt from moral evaluation. Is that a fair criticism?
This is not at all a fair criticism. The meaning of morality does not lie in our wishes to do things, instead it is derived by our desire to do good and be good at each phase. We have to understand the intent behind it and the fact that things never seem to be sorted or crisp always and we have to manage it from the foreground to ensure it works to the best of our understanding always.
