Answer #1

GIVEN DATA :

Hole Diameter = \phi 0.360 \pm ? Inch.

Fastener Diameter = \phi 0.310 \pm 0.002 Inch.

Available Hole Position Tolerance at MMC = 0.021 Inch.

SOLUTION :

What is the Hole Tolerance ?

Available Hole Position Tolerance at MMC = 0.021. ( Given ).

Actually, the given Position Tolerance is Rectangular Tolerance Zone. That is, In X - Axis the overall Tolerance Height is 0.021 Inch. Similarly, In Y - Axis the overall Tolerance Height is 0.021 Inch. So, we can write, the Tolerance Height in both X - Axis & Y - Axis are \pm 0.0105 Inch.

But, Fastener Tolerance = \pm 0.002.

As per GD & T Theory,

Available Clearance = [ Available Hole Position Tolerance ] - [ Fastener Tolerance ] ----------------------------------------1.

As per Equation - 1,

Therefore, Available Clearance = [ 0.0105 ] - [ 0.002 ] = 0.0085 = 0.009 Inch.

Therefore, Available Clearance = 0.009 Inch.

Therefore, Hole Diameter = \phi 0.360 \pm 0.009 Inch.

ANSWER :

Hole Diameter = \phi 0.360 \pm 0.009 Inch.
