Collective memory is the memory that reflects the sense of history in the individual. With the help of the collective memory one come to know the history of his nation. The collective memory is the memory of the group of people. It focuses how the forefathers of the same group of people suffered for the country and how they fought for the country. The history of the freedom movement of India is the collective memory and the people of the subsequent generation feel a kind of harmony for the same struggle of their forefathers.

The sense of patriotism is generated in the individual for such reason. They love their country because it is the gift of their forefathers and they want to preserve the traditions of their forefathers. Even they are united in respect of diversity in religion, language or culture. The sense of nationalism is equal to them and when they think of their country they are free from their personal identity and all bear the same national identity.
