Solution :

Given that,

\bar x = 1230

s = 270

n = 15

Degrees of freedom = df = n - 1 = 15 - 1 = `4

At 99% confidence level the t is ,

\alpha = 1 - 99% = 1 - 0.99 = 0.01

\alpha / 2 = 0.01 / 2 = 0.005

t\alpha /2,df = t0.005,14 =2.977

Margin of error = E = t\alpha/2,df * (s /\sqrtn)

= 2.977 * ( 270 / \sqrt 15)

= 207.53

Margin of error = 207.53

The 99% confidence interval estimate of the population mean is,

\bar x - E <\mu  < \bar x + E

1230 - 207.53 < \mu < 1230 + 207.53

1022.47 < \mu < 1437.52

(1022.47,1437.52 )

    Before any order is shipped, inspectors at Alvarez Manufacturing test a sample of finished units for breaking strength. You select a simple random sample of 16 units from a recently completed order and find that the sample average breaking strength is 799 pounds. Because you do not know the population standard deviation, you calculate a sample standard deviation of the breaking strengths of 29 pounds. Assume that the population is normally distributed. Construct a 99% confidence interval estimate of the...

    A new drug to treat high cholesterol is being tested by pharmaceutical company. The cholesterol levels for 18 patients were recorded before administering the drug and after. The mean difference in total cholesterol levels (after - before) was -8.603 mg/dL with a standard deviation of 5.449 mg/dL. When creating a 90% confidence interval for the true average difference in cholesterol levels by the drug, what is the margin of error? 1) 1.7087 2) 2.2271 3) 2.2342 4) 1.2843 5) 2.1127...

    A local pizza place claims that they average a delivery time of 10.14 minutes. To test this claim, you order 13 pizzas over the next month at random times on random days of the week. You calculate that the average delivery time is 8.59 minutes with a standard deviation of 1.721 minutes. You create a 99% confidence interval of (7.13, 10.05).
