In a series RLC circuit,

R = 5 Ω; L = 2.5 x 10-6 H

Part C

The impedance of a series RLC circuit is Z = {R2 + (XC – XL)2}1/2

The capacitive reactance, XC = 1/2πfC . it can be seen from the equation that an increase in capacitance decreases the capacitive reactance. A decrease in capacitive reactance results a decrease in impedance of the circuit as evident from the equation for the impedance Z.

Part D

At resonance, capacitive reactance, XC = inductive reactance, XL

(XC – XL) = 0 at resonance

The impedance of a series RLC circuit is Z = {R2 + (XC – XL)2}1/2 = R = 5 Ω

The impedance of the circuit at resonance, Z = 5 Ω
