give feedback to this answer. do you agree or disagree with this answer?

Indigenous peoples were on this land long before us. It is known that traditions, respecting, and living off the land is an essential component for Indigenous living. Especially living in Canada, there is an unfavorable history as the indigenous were disrespected, mistreated, and forced off their land. UNDRIP is absolutely necessary. In my view a pro to this is it gives Indigenous peoples the well deserved right to make decisions about their land. Historically, governments have made promises to allow Indigenous to be apart of major decisions but have not followed through. UNDRIP gives the proper respect and it is fair. Another positive to this is it give the Indigenous community the opportunity to in a sense be a self government. Officials have to seek approval and permission to conduct building and activities on traditional land, putting the Indigenous community in power.

A negative to this would be the potential push-back from the community. Unfortunately not everyone acknowledges traditional land and the rightful owners (Indigenous peoples). So if something is vetoed or not allowed to happen on this land, members of the community might become angered or upset. This often leads to hatred including racism and negative remarks, which is never ok.

Agreed. The pros and cons as listed are absolutely to the point. UNDRIP is an absolutely crucial way of protecting the indigenous people's self interest culturally, politically, socially, economically and environmentally. This way, any trade-off made between them and governments or other people would seem as a fair result.
Yes, the push-back seems to be a major problem as development is a big concern for indigenous people. Rather than being a law, UNDRIP is a way of including indigenous people in solving issues and keeping them in the loop when making major decisions.

give feedback to this answer. do you agree or disagree with this answer? I believe the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) was needed and has helped Indigenous people keep their lands traditional. I see no cons with UNDRIP. One of the many pros to UNDRIP is that Indigenous people have the right to do what they want with their land. This helps maintain the traditional value of the land and ensures Indigenous people have full control...
