I believe the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) was needed and has helped Indigenous people keep their lands traditional. I see no cons with UNDRIP. One of the many pros to UNDRIP is that Indigenous people have the right to do what they want with their land. This helps maintain the traditional value of the land and ensures Indigenous people have full control of the lands they own, and do not need to worry about the government going against their traditional ways of using the lands. All the articles are fair and help protect Indigenous people's rights. Indigenous people have been here long before us, and these articles ensure that their lands and rights are respected, as they should be the ones making decisions with what to do on their occupied lands, not the government. Overall, UNDRIP is absolutely necessary and fair for the legal decisions of Indigenous people.

While I broadly agree with the statement that the United Nation Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) is a move in the right direction and will help indigenous people in not only keeping their culture and lands intact, but will also allow them more say in matters that concern them.

But there is one issue I do have with the UDNRIP. And it is that it is non-binding. So while it is a good guideline and nations who adopt it do show intent to implement it, it means that they are not bound to do so and if there are parts of UNDRIP which the government violates, there is not much recourse for the indigenous people. So on ground it changes little.
