Question

Question: Answer the following question. Be as complete as possible, and always explain your reasoning.

  1. One possible reaction pathway for the oxidation of 9-fluorenol with sodium hypochloride solution and acetic acid proceeds through a reaction intermediate A (not isolated). Intermediate A then reacts further to provide the desired product OH CH3COH + NaOCI + CH3CO, Na+ + H2O acetone room temp. A C13H,CIO + CH3CO2H + B
  2. Draw the chemical structures of reaction intermediate A and product B.
  3. Write a reasonable mechanism for the conversion of intermediate A to 9-fluorenone. Be as complete as possible and show electron flow for all steps.
