1. Probability of retaining the null, when it's false.

(type II error is the probability of accepting the null hypothesis when it is false)

2. paired-samples t test

( since, same people are studied before and after they are given a drug therefore, the two samples are dependent. So we perform paired-sample t test instead of independent-samples t-test and ANOVA is performed when more than 2 samples are given)

3. Null hypothesis: Psychiatrists take off equal sick days than the average American.

ie,  H:H=5

Alternate hypothesis: Psychiatrists take off less sick days than the average American.

ie,  H, :μ<5

where, \mu is the population mean.

Test statistic:

2 (11 - 2u

where, sample mean: T= 3

sample size: n= 16

population standard deviation: 0 = 2

V16(3 – 5) 2 -4

Obtainest test statistic value = -4

α = 0,01

Critical value : -Ta = T0.01 -2.326

2 < T0.01

Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis at α = 0,01 level of significance and conclude that the psychiatrists take off less sick days than the average Americans.

4. For single sample t-test we have df = n-1. Here n=12 ie, df = n-1 = 12 - 1 =11

df = 11
