Glycolysis is the first step in the breakdown of glucose to release energy for the metabolism of the cell. In Glycolysis the final product formed is the pyruvic acid.

This process do not requires the presence of oxygen and can take place in aerobic as well as anaerobic conditions. Glycolysis takes place in the cytoplasm of all the living cells , i.e, it occurs in the cytoplasm, in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

So , Answers is : (E) in the cytosol of both.
