Ans) According to Engineering New's formula, allowable load (Qa),

Qa = W h / [6(S + C)]

where, W = Weight of hammer = 20000 lb

h = height of fall of hammer = 36 in

S = Average Final penetration per blow = 0.25 in

C = Empiral constant = 0.25 cm or 0.1 in for single acting hammer

Putting values,

=> Qa = 20000 (36) / [6 (0.25 + 0.1)]

=> Qa = 342857 lb or 342.85 kips or 171.42 tons

Hence, safe rated load is 342.85 kips or 171.42 tons
