Answer #1

Answers:

Oxidation state of iron = +3

Coordination number of iron = 6

Explanation:

Li3[Fe(CN)6] is a neutral coordinate complex compound because it doesn't has any charge on it. So the oxidation state of the compound equals to zero.

We know that

Lithium is alkali metal , it's oxidation state will be always +1

CN- anion is monodentate negatively charged ligand, it's oxidation state will be always -1

Now let's assume oxidation state of Fe is X and solve for the oxidation state number as gibgigin

3(+1) + X + 6(-1) = 0

3+x-6=0

X= +6-3

X= +3

Therefore oxidation state of Fe in Li3[Fe(CN)6] = +3

Coordination number:

The number of ligands that are attached directly to the central metal in coordination sphere of complex is called as coordination number of that metal atom

In this example [Fe(CN)6]-3 is considered as coordination sphere. So there are six CN- ligands attached with central Fe atom.

Therefore coordination number of iron in Li3[Fe(CN)6] is equal to 6.
