Answer #1

Amines will undergo exhaustive alkylation in the presence of excess methyl iodide, producing a quaternary ammonium salt. This process transforms the amino group into an excellent leaving group. Treating the quaternary ammonium salt with a strong base causes an E2 reaction that yields an alkene. The reagent most commonly used is aqueous silver
oxide, Ag2O .
When unsymmetrical amines are used, least substituted is the the major alkene product.
