An outbound call centre conducted interviews for three potential candidates, Daisy, Mickey, and Jessie for different job positions in this office. Daisy was asked a set of standardized interview questions. Mickey was asked whatever questions the interviewers felt like asking. Jessie was asked a few standard questions as well some random questions by three interviewers sitting in the interview.

            From the above scenario,

a)      Identify and explain the three kinds of job interviews conducted for each of the candidates - Daisy, Mickey, and Jessie?

b)      Which interview method will be best in terms of consistency in the candidate selection process? Explain your answer.

a)Daisy-She underwent a structured Interview. Since she was asked a set of Standardized Interview questions which are usually being prepared in advance. This kind of interview can be both open-ended or close-ended. It is a patterned interview.

Mickey: We can say the candidate went through the unstructured interview as was asked any question which was not predetermined Unstructured interview flow like a daily conversation. This sort of interview can be said as a spontaneous interview. The topic is there in the mind of the interviewer and generally, they tend to cover those during the time of interview.

Jessie: She underwent a mix of structured as well as unstructured interviews. Here she was asked a few random questions and a few specialized questions. This helps to analyze a candidate's intellectual as well as situation skills.

b)Situational judgment test along with a mix of structured and unstructured interview nowadays seems to be best and consistent. Situational Judgement test is said as a series of scenarios that one might encounter at the workplace and asking a series of questions related to that for knowing how a candidate will respond to the situation. Today the globalized world is dynamic and hence is changing nothing is static so the traditional method of hiring has vanished somewhere which included critical thinking about what the resume of a candidate will suit the job specification or not. This SJT not only tests one's intelligence but also his emotional and situational intelligence along with his practicality skills. A mix of structured and unstructured interview help to give candidates inner as well as outer outlook.
