I would like help with using the excel PMT function to answer this question. I know how to find monthly/total payments but I do not know how to find "amount paid towards principle after 29 months with 6.7% nominal interest and 360standard month payment schedule"

The PMT function gives you monthly payments and this consists of both interest as well as principal.

To determine the amount that has been paid towards principle after 29 months with 6.7% nominal interest and 360 standard month payment schedule you will have to make an amortization table.

Suppose that your loan amount is $20,000. Thus monthly payments = PMT (6.7%/12, 360, 20000) = $129.06. This includes both principal as well as interest. You will have to segregate the two using a loan amortization table as shown below:
