Remember: Paramecium cells have 0,33 mm length and yeast cells have 0,01mm length (i.e. there’s a great difference in surface/volume ratio)

Procedure:

Raise paramecium cells (Paramecium sp.) and yeast cells (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and take an aliquot to ensure cells you have a good (big) number of cells in your sample.

Incubate each of the cell samples with a colorant substance (like methylene blue) for the same amount of time (like 1 min).

Afterwards wash the colorant with buffer solution and check in the microscope the colour of the paramecium and yeast cells to see how much is it coloured.

Notes:

With this procedure you can’t measure (with measuring instruments) how much is it the diffusion related to surface/volume ratio, but you can observe it by yourself!
