One of the most important phenomenon people experience these days is speaking apprehension which is also commonly referred to as stage fear or audience fear. Although people experience stage fear at the beginning, they would overcome as they experience more speaking in front of the audience. One of the most important things to overcome it is to prepare well and practice before get to the stage in terms of topic, body language, stories, anecdotes that are relevant to the audience one would address. It would also mean that one may need to work on one’s delivery style and speed along with the media one would choose to deliver.
It means that people form their ideas, opinions and even their identities by interacting with others through symbols, signs and language. Since people are the product of their environment and their attitudes, values, worldview, personality are shaped by their environments, it’s done so through their interaction with their environment through various means. People learn and practice their behaviours by connecting themselves socially with others. Thus, George Herbert Mead suggests that people are talked into humanity in order to bring out the importance of human beings as social animals and that they would be greatly influenced by others in their environment.
Speaker’s credibility refers to the trustworthiness of the speaker in terms of the speaker’s character and message. This would mean that the speaker should be able to help the audience build trust in the speaker through their messages, expertise, relevance of the message, usefulness of the message etc. When people start trusting the speaker, they would listen carefully without doubting them. However, in order to develop this credibility, the speaker needs to be authentic and deliver messages coupled with facts and figures and instil hope in people.
