Interorganizational conflict refers to conflicts that occur in an organization within various departments that are supposed to work together for a common purpose. It results out of lack of communication and cooperation between various departments. In criminal justice system, there are many agencies such as, the police, court, prison etc. need to work together in order to establish peace and ensure safety. One of the most important reasons for conflicts is lack of communication or miscommunication in which each one would be unclear about one’s own role and boundaries. This would mean that people would either pass the blame on the other or would take excess control that would violate others’ roles. Secondly, the ego among the departments and agencies would prevent them from working with others out of fear of losing the importance. Each one would strive to hold on to one’s own reputation thus wouldn’t cooperate well with others. Although conflicts are inevitable, there are solutions for the conflicts of the agencies overcome their ego, clarify their roles, set proper communication channels etc.
