Answer #1

Before writing the structure of any peptide, it is important to know what are peptides and how they are formed. Peptides are formed from aminoacids by the condensation reaction of amino group of one amino acid with the carboxylic acid group of another amino acid. As you know condensation of acid group and amine group produce amide. Now the resulting amide is called dipeptide and the amide linkage is called with a special name "peptide bond".(NOTE: All amides are not called peptides. Those amides formed by the condensation of carboxylic acid group of one amino acid with another one is called peptide!!).

Peptide bood R. R. R -Coon, Hand-co COOH inc-co -ċ-coor et -Y R O Ry Ru Amiro auid. Amino auid. Dipeptide. + R-COOH YN-R 4-5-

That is, in any aminoacid or peptide, there will be atleast one free amino group and one free carboxylic acid group. If not they are not called peptides. Now imagine that I attach one more amino acid to the free acid end of the above dipeptide, then there will be one more condensation reaction and formation of one more peptide bond. Then it will be called tripetide. (That means even condensation of a peptide with an amino acid also gives one peptide carrying an additional amino acid residue.)

n7 ༣s an༠༥. ay سے کی ۔ - ༤ སྐབས་ བཀའ་ འདས་པ་ཡཁ ན མ مدلI can also add one more amino acid to the -NH2 group of the dipetide to form a tripeptide. I can keep repeating this, to get a peptide with as many aino acid I require. But at the end there will be atleast one free amino group and a free acid group in the peptide, that too on two ends of the peptide. The end carrying free amino group is called N-terminal and that carrying carboxylic acid group is called C-terminal. By convention, it is always true that the left end of a given peptide is N-terminal and the right end is C-terminal.

I think now you may note that your peptide YLI is a tripetide and Y has free -NH2 group (by convention mentioned above) and I has free -COOH group!!. I also believe that you can make the peptide yourself!!.

Let me help.

Tyrosine, Luecine, and Isoleusine have one letter abbrevations Y, L, and I respectively.

Now write their structures.

N OH ion Hn AN Theo He HO 3 CH3 Tyrosine (1) heucine (La Isoleucine (I).

In the above structures, the thick bonds represents the stereochemistry and I have selected naturally occuring L-amino acids in the above case. If stereochemistry is out of your scope, you may neglect it and just replace the thick bonds by normal bonds.

Now you condense all the above aminoacids as I shown above to get your tripeptide YLI.

Hydrolysis is just the reverse of condensation as far as the peptides are concerned. i.e., hydrolysis happens at the peptide bonds and it reverses it back to individual aminoacids. In the above case, it is a tripeptide. It is mentioned that the first two residues undergo hydrolysis. it means the peptide linkage between Y and L will hydrolyse to give amino acid tyrosine(Y) and dipeptide LI.

I believe the answer is clear!!
