While preparing the balance sheet, the major three categories are assets, liabilities and stockholders equity. Assets represents what the company owns and liabilities shows what company ows to others and stockholders equity sections helps to know how much investment done by shareholders and net profit is added to retained earnings.

Hence, assets, liabilities and stockhders equity are correct answers.

SUMMARY:

As the common stock and retained earnings are included inside the stockholders equity section, these are not considered as a category of balance sheet but only items falling under stockholders equity.
