The transposons are also called jumping genes, these were first discovered by Barbara McClintock in maize. They are classified into two types, namely DNA transposons (class-II) and retro transposons (class-I). These genes can move from one position to another position on a chromosome and sometimes, which lead to massive changes in the genome organism. These changes include change in genome size and reversion of mutations, etc. They also play a major role in evolution too.
