Answer #1

a)

b) Calculation of theoretical yield:

192.19g per polymer unit = 194.19g of dimethyl terephthalate

therefore, 2.0g per polymer unit= \frac{194.19 * 2}{192.19} = 2.02g

This is the theoretical yield( 2.02g).

                           OR

To determine theoretical yield, multiply the amount of moles of the limiting reagent by the ratio of the limiting reagent and the synthesized product and by the molecular weight of the product.

1mol of polymer unit gives 1mol of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT)

thoretical yield= 0.010406 mol polmer unit x (1mol polymer unit/ 1mol DMTe) x (194.19 g of DMT/1mol DMT)

                         = 2.02g.
