The figure above shows the titration curve of a weak triprotic acid, H3A, titrated with a strong base, BoH. Based on the information in the figure and the pKa values shown (1 point each): a. What is the pH at point B? What is the poH at point B? b. What is [H lat point C? What is joH l at point C? c. What is the poH at point D? What is the pH at point D? d. What is the value of log (IA VIHA Dat point E? e. What is p K61? What is p Kb2? What is pKb3?

Answer #1

(a) pH at point B = 4

pOH = 14-pH = 14-4 = 10

-------------------------------------------------

(b) at point C pH = 5

[H+] = 10^-5 M, [OH-] = 10^-14/[H+] = 10^-9 M

-------------------------------

(c)

pH = 8 , pOH = 6

------------------------

(d)

pH =9

----------------------

(e) pKb1 = pKw - pKa1 = 14- 2 = 12

pKb2 = 14-5 = 9

pKb3 = 14-9 = 5
