Answer #1

Fnet = F_applied - muek*m*g

m*a = F_applied - muek*m*g

==> F_applied = m*a + muek*m*g

= 950*2.2 + 0.42*950*9.8

= 6000.2 N

    A 1290 -kg car is pushing an out-of-gear 2140 -kg truck that has a dead battery. When the driver steps on the accelerator, the drive wheels of the car push horizontally against the ground with a force of 4600 N . The rolling friction of the car can be neglected, but the heavier truck has a rolling friction of 770 N , including the "friction" of turning the truck's drivetrain. A crate is loaded onto a flatbed truck and the coefficient of static friction between the crate and the truck is 0.45. If the driver of the truck is moving at 25 m/s and sees the car ahead of him stop, 147 m away, will the crate slide relative to the truck as the driver avoids a collision?
