Explain changes in workforce participation for women with children. What legislation exists related to work and family?
Many changes have been proposed and developed in relation to balancing the workforce participation for women and workforce participation for women with children. The major changes have brought a more flexible program for childcare for the parents at work. The aim is to ensure a family work balance for the individuals or women who have children to take care of. This is because most of the employment set ups rarely had developed mechanisms for controlling and regulating the labor force. The aim of the new changes and legislation passed by the Congress was to ensure there is also diversity consideration for the women and that they are not subjected to harsh working conditions in the respective organizations.
Main legislation that exists is the (FLSA) Fair Labor Standard Act. The FLSA provides a balanced and more uniform perspective to the women who have children. Many companies have childcare units which have places set aside for women with children and other needs within the organization that can prove supportive the women. In US most of the firms have implemented the provisions of the legislation under the FLSA. The greater consideration is given to the women who have children and how the measures can be made more responsive to handle the employee welfare. The improvement in the working conditions due to the FLSA have resulted into improved performance and productivity of the various women in workforce.
