Answer #1

A) No, there are no terrestrial mammals larger than a blue whale. The blue whale is the largest living mammal and animal species on this earth. The size of blue whale grows over 90 ft. long and weigh more than 150 tons. Mature blue whales can measure anywhere from 75 feet to 100 feet from head to tail. This size is similar to 8 to 10 story building and as heavy as about 112 adult male giraffes. The largest blue whale found to date is a female that weighed 389,760 pounds.

B) Specific dynamic action (SDA) is also known as dietary induced thermogenesis (DIT). It is the amount of energy expenditure above the resting metabolic rate. The rate of oxygen consumption increases after feeding and declines to a resting level after 24-72 h. Following feeding, the rate of oxygen consumption increases to a peak and then slowly declines to the pre-feeding level. When the feeding is appropriate, this leads to the growth and survival. Incomplete or over feeding leads to the insufficient metabolic rate which eventually leads to the decay in the survival of the organism.
