For assign R and S absolute configuration for the given molecule we have follow some rules.

  • Find the chiral center for which you have to assign .Then start giving number with their respective priority.Priority depends on the masses or atomic number.
  • If some have higher atomic mass give them hai 1 priority similarly label all.
  • After labelling make sure that the lowest priority group is away from the observer means in the dashed notation.Then start rotation from sequence wise like 1-2-3-4 .If the rotation is clockwise assign R if counterclockwise assign S.
  • After labelling if the lowest priority group is on the wedge the after rotation along priority bases if you get clockwise rotation assign S or counterclockwise rotation assign R.
