Question

In what way might Moore’s own social standing influence his beliefs about poverty and even hinder attempts to end child poverty in Canada?

BLAMING THE POOR FOR THEIR PLIGHT

Blaming the poor for their social standing often reflects a lack of understanding about the life chances that emerge from patterns of social stratification and social mobility. In response to a question posed by a reporter who wished to know if the federal government was going to do anything to end child poverty in the near future, then Industry Minister James Moore stated: “Is it my job to feed my neighbour’s child? I don’t think so” (Norman, 2013).
