Answer #1
  • There are three types of symmetry in biology. They are asymmetrical, radial symmetry and bilateral symmetry.
  1. Asymetrical means body parts are not equal.
  2. Radial symmetry means body can be cut in half across any diameter and the two parts are identical. Normally radial symmetry is there with animals with no locomotion. Ex. sponges, polyps, medusae
  3. Bilateral symmetry means right side and left side of the body are mirror images. Ex. Humans and other animals
  • Most ancestral symmetry is asymmetrical because primitive animals are asymmetrical.
  • Most derived symmetry is bilateral symmetry. Because most of the animals are bilaterally symmetrical. That means most of the animals are derived from bilateral symmetry.
