An airplane is flying horizontally with a constant velocity of 200 m/s at an altitude of 5200 m when it drops a package.

How long does it take for the package to reach the ground? ______s

What is the distance between the airplane and the package when the package hits the ground? Ignore air resistance. ______m

Answer #1

horizontal velocity v = 200 m/s

intial vertical velocity, u = 0 m/s

height = 5200 m

S = ut + (1/2) g t2

=> t = 32.58 s

Since the horizontal velocity of both plane and package is same, there seperation is only in vertical direction.

So distance between the 2 when the package hit ground = height = 5200 m

The package should be 32.58*200 = 6515.3 m behind target when it releases the package.
