A shot putter releases a shot some distance above ground level with a velocity of 12 m/s, 51 degrees above the horizontal. The shot hits the ground 2.08 seconds later. A) what are the horizontal and vertical components, Ax and Ay respectively , of the shots acceleration while in flight? B) what are the components of the shots initial velocity, Vox and Voy? C) How far did the shot travel horizontally? D) how high above the ground was the shot when it was it released? E) What are both the magnitude AND direction of the shots velocity as it hits the ground?

Answer #1

(a) For this part, you know that all of the acceleration once the shot leaves her hand is due to gravity, therefore her Ax=0 and her Ay=-9.81m/s^2

(c) x=(vicostheta)t = (12.0cos51)2.08s=15.7m

(d) y = y0 + (1/2)*(Vyi + Vyf) * t

Solve for y - y0 to get the answer.
