A square, single-turn wire coil L = 1.52 cm on a side is placed inside a solenoid that has a circular cross-section of radius r = 2.79 cm, as shown in the figure below.

The solenoid is 18.0 cm long and wound with 107 turns of wire. If the current in the solenoid is 3.38 A, find the flux through the coil.

If the current in the solenoid is reduced to zero in 3.37 s, calculate the magnitude of the average induced emf in the coil.

Answer #1

magnetic field due to solonoid is B = uoNi/L

B = 4pi *10^-7 * 107 * 3.38/0.18

B = 2.5235*10^-3 T

nowe flux phi =   BA

phi = 2.523*10^-3 * 0.0152 *0.0152   = 5.8 *10^-7 Tm^2

b. induce dmef e = A dB/dt

e = 0.0152 *0.0152 *( 2.523*10^-3-0)/3.37

e = 1.729 *10^-7 volts
