A uniform ladder 15 feet long is leaning against a frictionless wall at an angle of 53 degrees above the horizontal. The weight of the ladder is 30 pounds. A 75-pound boy climbs 6.0 feet up the ladder. What is the magnitude of the friction force exerted on the ladder by the floor? I have that the answer is 34. I'm just wondering why the x-components of the weights don't contribute to the net force in the x. many thanks. ΣMf = 0 0 = 75(6 cos53) + 30(7.5 cos 53) - n (15sin 53) n = 33.91 lb Also, ΣFx = 0 0 = n - f f = n f = 33.91 lb
