CoCl2.6H2O + H2C2O4.2H2O -> CoC2O4.4H2O + 2 HCl + 4 H2O If, according to previously provided equation, the reaction uses 2.00 g of cobalt (II) chloride hexa hydrate and 1.26 g of oxalic acid dihydrate, and (1.68x10^0) g of cobalt oxalate tetrahydrate product was actually collected, what is the percent yield of CoC2O4.4H2O? This time you have to determine the limiting reagent and the theoretical yield before determining the percent yield.

Answer #1

CoCl2.6H2O    +   H2C2O4.2H2O ----------------------------------> CoC2O4.4H2O + 2 HCl + 4 H2O

237.93 g                   126 g                                                              218.95 g

2.00 g                       1.26g

here limiting reaegnt is H2C2O4.2H2O

theoretical yield = 218.95 x 1.26 / 126

                           = 2.19 g

percent yield = actual yield x 100 / theoretical yield

                      = 1.68 x 100 / 2.19

                        = 76.7 %
