What social, political, and organizational behavior can influence change in criminal justice agencies?

Socially, the things that can influence change in criminal justice agencies is more community involvement. A growing disconnection is occurring between the general public and criminal justice agencies. The public is growing fearful and less trustful of local law enforcement and faith in the criminal justice system as a whole is declining. Years of publicized corruption and a lack of justice is largely to blame. Rapist are going free and people are unjustly dying at the hands of police officers and most of them are never punished.

Politically, there needs to be changes in laws, policies, and procedures. This will begin at the political level where senators, mayors, governors, etc. will need to work together will law enforcement officials to assess and recommend changes to improve public safety and the overall image of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Organizationally, the greatest influence will be to change the culture. Profiling, racism, sexism, etc. need to be eradicated from the criminal justice system. Officers need to be better trained and there needs to be more public defenders who are better trained and better equipped to defend suspects and not run a plea bargain system.
