You are interested in studying the effects of two newly developed cancer drugs on the expression of a well-characterized oncogene, Ras. To do this, you go back to your cultured cell system and split melonoma cells into 3 culture dishes and treat one with drug #1, one with drug #2, and one is untreated as your control. You then isolate RNA from these cells and perform qPCR to measure Ras mRNA levels. The amplification plot for drug #1 is labeled "A" for drug #2 is labeled "C", and the untreated control is labeled "B" in the figure to the right.

b. What are the effects of drug #1 and drug#2 on Ras expression? Explain your reasoning.

From the obtained qPCR graph, the drug #1 increases the expression of oncogene, Ras, whereas drug#2 decreases the expression of oncogene, Ras. This is because the tube A has more concentration of mRNA than Tube C.
