(c) Geographic north pole acts as south magnetic pole (Earth's magnetism imitates the field line of a bar magnet.) At the poles field is vertical (vertically downward at north geographic pole and vertically upward at south pole).

Hence compass needle at north pole will point vertically downward.( North pole is actually a magnetic south pole).

The north pole of earth will be magnetic south pole.the magnetic field lines comes out from the magnetic north pole and eliminate at the magnetic south pole. So the direction will be from magnetic north pole to magnetic south pole.

And a compass stays in the direction of the magnetic field.

So in above problem compass is vertical at North pole so it is magnetic south pole and the direction of the magnetic field will be downward.

So the compass will be straight down into the ground.
