Let us consider you have given your data to a computer to analyze, and it tell you the p value = 0.0004. If your significance level is 0.05 , then you would Reject the null hypothesis.

( Decision - Reject H0 if p value < significance level )

With small degrees of freedom , the t distribution is not quite normal , but with increasing Degrees of freedom the t distribution will more closely approximate a normal distribution.
