Roughly half of 18- to 29-year-olds (48%) say they have used an online dating site or app. This is according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted with 802 18- to 29-year-olds Oct. 16 to 28, 2019. The margin of error is 5.4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level. 25. (a) What percent of all 18- to 29-year-olds have used an online dating site or app? (b) Are you 100% certain? (c) If not, how confident are you? 26. If Pew Research Center surveyed 20,000 18- to 29-year-olds, would the margin of error be larger, smaller or remain the same?

Answer #1

The margin of error is given as: M.E = 0.054

95% C.I and p=0.48

(a) % of all 18-29 year old who have used an online dating site or app

C.I = (p-M.E,p+M.E)

= (0.48-0.054,0.48+0.054)

=(0.426,0.534)

Hence between 42.6% and 53.4%.

(b)

No, we are not 100% certain.

(c)

We are 95% confident.

(d) The margin of error will be smaller in that scenario. This is because the higher the number of samples, the closer is the sample to the population and lower is the margin of error.
