Just a little back story to answer the above questions, I am a junior and I am majoring in Marketing and International business and I will graduate in May 2020

Q1. Think ahead of your graduation and the start of your new career (or the continuation of your existing one). How would you prefer to be compensated? More specifically, would you prefer more emphasis on “base”/fixed compensation and less on variable compensation? Or would you prefer less emphasis on base compensation and more on variable compensation? Why?

Q2. From a “Total Rewards” standpoint, what are you/will you be trying to obtain? In other words, how important are the various elements of total rewards (e.g, compensation, benefits, work environment, work/life balance, etc.) to you? Be as specific and realistic as you can.

The answer to the Q1) More Emphasis on Base pay or variable component:

After graduating I would like to join an advertising agency to utilize and enhance my learning. As I will focus on the creativity and different theoretical concepts to make an influencing advertising and promotion campaign, I would emphasize more on the variable component. It will encourage me to think out of the box and give the best shot for the work. More fixed component makes the individuals less creative and competitive. The more variable component will enforce me to get out from my comfort zone.

The answer to Q 2) Importance of various elements of total rewards:

The aim of the total reward is to satisfy the employees from all the possible aspects. It is like a 360-degree reward that considers monetary as well as non-monetary aspects for the compensation. For me, the priorities will be the work-life balance, work environment, compensation, and benefits. Work life balance and work environment affect psychologically to the individuals. As creativity, out of box thinking, inculcating social awareness and environmental awareness are the demands of marketing professionals, it needs research and focus. A happy, fresh and stress-free mind can create the most effective work, which will ultimately affect my compensation and benefits.
