A Steam Rankine Cycle receives fluid from a boiler at 3.5 MN/m2 and 350oC, exhausts to the condenser at 10 kN/m2 and returns the condensate to the boiler via a feed pump.

Draw both the system showing plant layout and the cycle on a temperature/entropy graph.

Neglecting feed pump work calculate :-

  1. The energy supplied per kg of steam.
  2. The dryness fraction of the steam entering the condenser.
  3. The Rankine efficiency.
  4. The Ideal power output if the mass flow rate of the steam is 3000kg/Hr.

A steam power plant is based on the Rankine cycle with reheat (refer to the figure below). Steam is produced by the boiler/superheater (H-1) at 100 bar and 600 C at a rate of 2.5 kgs. This is expanded to 10 bar in the turbine T-1 and then reheated to 600 °C in heater H-2. The steam is then expanded in turbine T-2 to a pressure of 0.1 bar. The steam is then condensed in condenser (C-1) which operates at...
