Subjects with BMI2 30 kg-m2 (n-48) were randomly assigned to one of two isocaloric diets (1-High Protein; 2-High Carbohydrate) and one of three doses of a drug to curb hunger (100; 200; 300 mg). Diet and dose are between-subjects factors. Subjects were ranked on calculated BMI from low to high and placed into eight (8) groups, each consisting of six (6) homogeneous subjects. Within each of the 8 groups, subjects were randomly assigned to one of the six diet/dose combinations. In other words, subjects were nested within the diet/dose combinations. Hunger was assessed after five weeks by a validated questionnaire with a high hunger score reflecting a low sensation of hunger. The raw data and preliminary calculations for the statistical analysis are presented in the tables below.
