Suppose that your eyes are 1.70 m above the ground. While at a large lake, you think of a relatively-easy way to calculate the radius of the Earth. By standing on the shore and communicating with someone in an approaching boat, and using the GPS locators in your phones, you determine that you can just see the boat above the horizon when it is at a distance of 4.65 km. That is, your line- of-sight distance to the horizon is 4.65 km (see diagram). Calculate the radius of the Earth, and be sure to express your answer to the correct number of significant figures.
