Pr. 2 (20 pts) SO2 is absorbed from air to water at 20°C and 1 atm in a wetted wall column with 40 mm ID and 1 m length. A gas stream containing 3 vol- % SO2 and 97 vol- % air is fed to the column at the bottom with a mass velocity of 0.05 m®/min and flows upward. Exit gas stream contains 1 vol-% SO2. Pure water is fed to the top of the column with a mass velocity of 0.036 kg/s. The interfacial concentration at the liquid side can be assumed constant as xai=0.0006. (Note: (MW)so2 = 64, (MW)air = 29, (MW)water = 18) a) Calculate the average flux, b) Find the liquid side mass transfer coefficient kx.
