Answer #1

Nomenclature of Bicyclic Compounds:

Compounds containing two fused rings are named as bicyclo alkanes.Following points are taken into consideration while naming such compounds:

(1) Count the total number of carbons in the entire molecule. This is the parent name (eg. ten carbons in the system would be decane)

(2) Count the number of carbons between the bridgeheads, then place in brackets in descending order. (eg. [2,2,1])

(3) Place the word bicyclo at the beginning of the name.

Comming to the given example the number is done as follows:

                                                          bicyclo111pentane

(i)Functional group is an alkane, therefore suffix = -ane

(ii)The ring structure requires the prefix bicyclo

(iii)The ring structure is C8 therefore root = oct

(iv)The links contain 4, 2 and 0 carbon atoms =[4,2,0] system

So the name of the compound is Bicyclo [4,2,0] octane
