Hard work and determination are key factors of success for individuals. But sometimes, it may not always be enough. Institutional discrimination still exists that creates obstacles for people of color and women to succeed. Should society try to address the fact that women still are paid less for doing the same job as women, find difficulty in obtaining positions that are traditionally held by males, and that people of color may not be allowed employment at certain companies? Why or why not?

Society has long been practicing discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation etc. This discrimination in terms of property, education, employment and voting has caused severe damage to those who experienced it. Especially, the racial minorities and women experienced lots issues for many centuries. The fact is that these discriminations are institutionalized today, so people of colour are systematically ignored from housing, education, employment and higher positions. Women on the other hand experience discrimination in terms of equality in salary and promotion and subjected to sexual harassment. At times, they are also rejected from certain jobs, due to their physical make-up. In my opinion, all these discriminations are wrong. We don’t know whether people do it knowingly or unknowingly but it only shows that they are not still civilized and immature. This has to change as only one race, the human race should remain and all the other racial categorisations should be removed from the list.
