A conducting spherical shell of inner radius and outer radius has a charge Q on it. An additional charge, also Q, is then added to the sphere. What is the resulting charge per unit area on the outer surface of the sphere?

charge on conductor always remains on its surface.


(in this case, only on outer surface)

total charge = 2 Q


outer radius is not given uppose outer radius is b.

then charge per unit area = 2 Q / (4 pi b^2)

= Q / (2 pi b^2)
